Hang Seng Index rises as tech hits skids on mainland

RTHK - Sep 28, 2026

In Hong Kong, the benchmark Hang Seng Index ended 132 points, or 0.5 percent, to 24,642 on turnover of HK$177.48 billion. The tech index lost 15 points, or 0.4 percent, to 4,296 while the China enterprises index gained 51 points, or 0.6 percent, to 8,216. On the mainland, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index ended down 64 points, or 1.67 percent, to 3,823. The Shenzhen Component Index plunged 458 points, or 3.44 percent, to 12,858 while the ChiNext Index dived 149 points, or 4.53 percent, to 3,139. The large-cap CSI300 Index ended the session 2.2 percent lower, its biggest loss in five weeks and touching its lowest point since August 2025. China and the United States said they had agreed to reduce tariffs on US$30 billion of goods in each direction, and launch a dialogue on AI, following a meeting between President...
